Spider
Network Surveillance System

In the times of rapidly-changing and growing telecommunication networks the need of constant monitoring become absolute. The use of common channel signaling system No.7 (SS7/C7), while providing enhanced contemporary services and features, forces an introduction of a complex special SS7/C7 network. Quality of service is heavily affected by SS7/C7 network faults and congestions, and signalling problems may cause significant revenue loss. Spider is centralized multi-functional system designed to provide network-wide distributed monitoring and management and it is aimed to timely detect and avoid such situations. Spider's features are based on collecting and analysis of signaling information. The system includes remote modules (probes), central control unit, application modules (e.g., CDR server or database modules) and user stations connected via a dedicated network (usually, TCP/IP-based). While meeting all safety-related issues, a remote Internet-based user access is also possible. The remote modules provide nonintrusive interface to the E1/T1 links, store and decode signaling data analysis. They are also responsible for synchronization and communication with others modules. The major functionality of central unit is whole system control and management, network wide information elaboration and data presentation. Spider consists 6 main functional modules: Spider Agent, Spider NM, Spider Tracing, Spider DR, Spider AntiFraud, Spider QoS. Spider Agent is the core of Spider system which directly collects signaling data. Spider Network Monitoring (NM) Provides real-time SS7/C7 status monitoring, signaling traffic measurements and statistics, protocol analysis, and signaling accounting verification. Spider Data Records (DR) is dedicated to generate and store CDR (Call Data Record) and TDR (Transaction Data Record). This recording is based on signaling information, and can be used for further charging, quality of service assessment and fraud detection. Spider AntiFraud module detects, captures and analyses suspicious subscriber activity (e.g. excessive amount and duration of calls, call-backs etc.). Spider Tracing module provides multi-protocol network-wide call trace (voice calls, SMS etc.) and routing verification features. It is useful to resolve complaints or billing issues in real time. Spider QoS monitors quality of service and generates carrier/destination based reports. It is aimed to detect growing problems before they begin to affect customers.

Overall, Spider monitors (in a distributed mode) all SS7 network elements, collects and analyzes data (independently of switch types connected to a signaling network), processes and displays network performance data.

It also allows to assess a quality of service and detect an unauthorized access.
In the mean time, system modules can be used as a protocol analyzer to locally monitor different signaling channels (SS7, etc).

In addition, you can use the system as a new marketing information source while monitoring incoming and outgoing calls (for example, to analyze an output of advertising activities), to assess a switch performance, to measure a performance statistics, etc.

Spider system is custom-tailored solution and it s installation process depends on specific requirements and meets all specific network features. The system is well scalable and may either collect data from dozens or hundreds signaling links.
